THE SCIENCE OF DEDUCTION

The Science of Deduction is always so fascinating.  The formation of theories based on the facts you know and coming to the right conclusion is a must character for a good detective.  And also elimination of theories is also a part of deduction.  But, the basic part of deduction comes from the elementary thing that is "Observation".

We all see things.  But, we fail to observe things.  Seeing is completely different from observing.  One should be a good observer in order to make great deductions.  Because deductions are just the inferences made from those observations.

So, the first step is start observing on what is happening around the world.  Observation doesn't involves just seeing.  It involves the usage of all of your five senses like sight, smell, taste, touch and hearing.  A good observer uses all his senses.  Practice mindfulness, the art of being in the present.  Focus on what you are doing.  If there is nothing to observe, then observe your own breathing.  Mindfulness is the first and the foremost step to start with.

Curiosity plays an important role here.  The process of Deduction just starts with the scientific glance, i.e. curiosity.  Ask questions about things.  Ask questions on what you see, hear, and how things are functioning.  Knowing the world around you is one of the basic things that is needed.  So, take a look around the world in your scientific gaze.  Definitely asking questions about things and finding answers for it surely is a healthy sign.

When you go into a hotel, observe the color of the decor, observe the color of the waiters uniform.  And also note the rate of the foods.  When you go again there, try to remember things and check how must do you remember.  During your initial days of observation, have a notebook with you and write in it on what you observe.  Because, writing things will force you to observe.  But, with practice slowly you will not be needing any notebooks.

First step is the Observation, which we had just seen.  Now the second step is building knowledge.  Knowledge is always a key to live and sustain.  A person who has good knowledge always survives.  Learn about many things.  Definitely by asking questions, one should gain knowledge naturally.  Learn about many things.  About science, about people, about different traditions, about religions.  Your knowledge will help you in the process of deduction.  So, always expand your knowledge.  In my future posts, there will be posts to identify things such as to identify a smoker, to identify a drunkard, to identify various elements and compounds by chemical tests, to identify professions of people etc... and also the results of my own experiments.

The third step is formation of theories based on the facts you know.  A good deductor always forms theories upon facts, and broke each one until he finds one which fits all.  This is a common rule to both science and crime.  For example, in your office, Lily is the one who puts coffee before eight.  If you had not got coffee after eight then, it means Lily has not come to work.  So, after the formation of the theory go and check whether your theory holds good.

A good detective must be able to identify whether the resident of a house is a right-handed or a left-handed by just looking around his house without seeing the person.  Because, each and every thing that a person use has a significance and it can tell great things about a person to an acute observer.  Even I had deduced many things about a person with just by a pen recently and it was correct too.  So, always look for things and be curious.  Making solid inferences from what you had observed is really very important in order to make a good deduction.
